Woolnoughs Mineral Spring

Tucked away alongside Kangaroo Creek near Glenlyon, Woolnough's Crossing is a hidden gem for picnics.

Mr. Taylor of the Geological Survey of Victoria initially surveyed the area's mineral springs in 1893. The current spring was bored in 2006 and is 28 meters deep. It replaced an earlier bore that produced a mixture of creek and mineral water due to casing issues.

There are two additional springs located in the bed of Kangaroo Creek, they are only visible when the water is low, which occurs often during the summer. These springs, though small, reportedly have a strong flow. There is also a private spring in the region.

Woolnough's Spring shares some similarities with the spring at Glenlyon's Recreation Reserve. It boasts similar amounts of calcium, magnesium, and sodium, but with only about half the dissolved salts and total inorganic carbon.

If you're up for a little adventure, why not take the scenic route from Glenlyon to Daylesford and make a pit stop at these springs? It's a great way to explore off the beaten track and enjoy some tranquil nature along the way.
